The land conservation community has a new resource: The University of Georgia’s new Land Conservation Clinic (LCC), an interdisciplinary collaboration of the UGA School of Law and School of Ecology. The LCC, working pro bono for nonprofit and government clients, will address important legal and policy questions aimed at supporting and expanding conservation across the Southeast while also training the next generation of land conservation leaders

The fall clinic will work on a variety of projects, assisting land trusts, county sustainability programs, and other researchers. Student work will include drafting conservation easements and land protection ordinances, addressing title challenges to land conservation, exploring marsh protection, migration and mitigation, and developing agricultural solar leases guidance.

According to LCC director, Steffney Thompson, there is significant student interest in the clinic, and she is excited to see all the ways in which this fall’s group of students, as well as future clinic students, can serve the land conservation community.

If you have a possible project for the clinic, or would like to discuss the clinic’s work, please contact Steffney at Steffney.Thompson@uga.edu.
